The Gazelle's unique design responds to waves through the action of a central counterweight connected to tripodal arms anchored to the seabed. The geometry is such that the platform can move horizontally and vertically to minimise tilting.

Significant weight reduction

The Gazelle platform is lighter than other floating platforms. This not only reduces raw materials but also the high cost of handling and assembly.

Lowest Cost LCOE solution

The Gazelle platform is more compact and simpler to build, deploy, and maintain than other floating platforms, which translates to significantly lower levelised cost of energy (LCOE).

Gazelle’s innovative mooring system is a completely new concept. Achieving the Statement of Feasibility as part of the concept assessment defined in DNVGL-SE-0422 is a confirmation that Gazelle has demonstrated technical feasibility of the technology to deliver its targets in line with the requirements of our service specification that was developed to enable innovation in the marine renewables market.

Significantly reduced pitch

The geometric design makes the platform move horizontally and vertically with wind and waves, with almost zero pitch angle. Although most offshore wind turbines are designed to support pitch angles of up to 10º, this creates additional wear and tear on components. A pitch of less than 10º means less wear, less maintenance and a longer life for the wind turbine generator (WTG), which translates into more energy production and greater ROI.

The Gazelle Principle

The Gazelle's unique design combines the benefits of a TLP system and a semi-sub without the drawbacks. The dynamic mooring system balances forces and motions through the counter-weight providing natural ballast, keeping the turbine pitch low and improving efficiency in operation.

Gazelle Wind Power’s innovative attenuated mooring platform splits the ‘two classical functions’ of buoyancy and stability to produce a light, durable, and cost-effective platform that can be deployed in deeper waters further out to the sea.

Fast DEPLOYMENT

The Gazelle platform features a number of manufacturing, assembly, installation and commissioning advantages, making it possible to deploy quickly and efficiently.

Modular, scalable, mass-producible

MANUFACTURING / ASSEMBLY

The Gazelle platform is made up of modular and scalable parts, making manufacture and assembly cost-effective and efficient. Components are smaller and lighter, reducing the need for space in harbours and shipyards, while minimising the use of cranes.

INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING

It is easier and more cost-effective to transport the Gazelle platform to a site than any other floater. Competitor platforms are larger and heavier especially when made with reinforced concrete. The Gazelle can easily be installed utilizing standard port facilities and vessels.

Gazelle has the potential to completely change the offshore wind industry. By combining the best features of tension-leg and semi-submersible platforms—while eliminating their drawbacks—Gazelle’s technology will be at the forefront of tomorrow’s energy landscape.”
